OPHELIUS: Playfulness is a form of lightness, of living lightly. Our very presence is light, as you can detect from our energetic imprint. Life without play is often lived with a hard heart.
Is playfulness a childish thing? Of course not. Yet human adults often veer away from childlike play in favor of something much more aggressive and demanding. Play becomes about accomplishment, which, while itself a nobel aim, detracts from the purpose of play. Play is a type of release from the pressures of every day living.
Pure play is creative and spontaneous, and free from the need to be anything other than what it is. In play there is no end game, no result to achieve. Play is the beginning and the end, the all encompassing purpose.
What gets in the way of your playfulness? It is, singularly, the idea that play is an unworthy pursuit because it has no apparent outcome beyond play. Human adults have become obsessed with achievement and outcomes extending from their every endeavor. The exception to this may be relaxation, where fully resting to relax is itself the objective. Play is relaxing.
Play is relaxing when the mind lets go of the need for an outcome that seems to justify the worth of play. Play is its own worth. It brings lightness into life. It opens up the childlike heart in you, which is so highly beneficial in life. The childlike heart is full of wonder, and sees the possibility in all things. It imagines life in all its shapes and forms, and acts out those forms in a creative wonderland.
Closing
You will benefit tremendously from an enhanced appreciation of play in your life. Play for its own sake. Play to experience the joy and wonder of life free of the fetters of achievement. Play to know what it is to be a child again, for a child is what you are in the eyes of your Creator. There is no shame in this, for childhood is a gift beyond measure.
